Beautifully simple portraits for children who love to move, play, read, imagine and explore.

It is a cliche, but children really do grow up in the blink of an eye.  It would be only too easy for their childhood to pass by without really capturing such a magical time of their lives.

These sessions are designed to preserve all your child's inquisitive, gentle and joyous expressions in images that you'll want to print, frame and keep forever - until you pass them on to their children and then your great-grandchildren.

The Truffle Approach to Childhood Photography

Unlike traditional family photography, Childhood sessions place the focus on the children — their personality, imagination, relationships with siblings and the unique stage of life they are living through. A portrait with mum and dad is often a wonderful way to finish the session, celebrating the bonds that make childhood so special.

The Truffle signature style is light, simple and natural, with a clean white backdrop and soft, airy lighting that keeps the focus exactly where it belongs — on your child. Soft childhood colours and playful colour pops all photograph beautifully in the studio space, while simple activities and interaction allow personality to emerge naturally. A selection of images is also presented in black and white where it best suits the expression, mood and simplicity of the portrait.

While the light and airy style is a signature of Truffle, a selection of coloured backdrops is available for families looking for a different look.

Beautiful in colour.  Timeless in black and white.

The Photo Session

During the session, we'll move through activities that are chosen to suit your child's age and interests, and are well paced to ensure they don't tire or become bored. The result is a photo session that your child will enjoy, and photographs that show them as they really are.

Half an hour is usually plenty to achieve a varied gallery of photographs for you to choose from, but the session can be as flexible as necessary in response to your child's needs and energy levels.

The session fee starts at just $50, which is automatically applied as a credit to your artwork order.

Thank you so much, Veronica! The session went even better than I expected. Harry can be quite shy and usually takes a little while to warm up to new people, but you had him engaged and smiling straight away. We all had so much fun, and the whole experience felt relaxed and effortless. We can’t wait to see the photos!Emma-Louise

Why I Photograph Children

Before photography, I spent years teaching children in Spain. I still remember Ariana, aged seven, quietly celebrating after writing all her new English vocabulary perfectly. She did a little twirl while still sitting in her chair and announced, mostly to herself, “I am learning so much!”.  I'm not sure how she did that twirl, but surely only a seven year old can do a little twirl while still seated.

I remember summer camps full of children with missing front teeth, singing loudly, laughing constantly, and proudly showing me things they’d made or learned.  I loved their honesty, imagination and enthusiasm; the way they move, speak and express themselves before they become self-conscious about the world watching them.

Recently, one of my former students — now living in Ireland — found a way to contact me years later. It was a reminder of how meaningful time spent with children can be, and how deeply those small everyday moments can stay with us.

That’s part of why I love photographing them.
